THE FESTIVAL9-13 March
FODI is an exhibition of critical and disruptive ideas that explore the ways in which they have prevented and promoted change in society since time immemorial. We invite you to grapple with these ideas as they are all up for debate, discussion, and reflection. AFTER DARK10 March 5.30pm
After Dark is a special event in which the Festival is officially launched. Students will share their ideas and be available to engage in discussion. There will be light refreshments, snacks, music, and special guests. We don't want to ruin all of the surprises, so come and check it out for yourself. 3-3.45 light refreshments, 3.45-4.30 panel, 4.30-6.30 film The Festival wants to consider ideas that are pressing, difficult to discuss and often overlooked. You are invited to a panel conversation and screening of the 2019 critically acclaimed film The Body Remembers When the World Broke Open. The panel will be facilitated by Tashi Kirincic, Coordinator of Teacher Mentorship, and will feature: Elder Roberta Price, from the Coast Salish Snuneymuxw and Cowichan Nations Violet Nelson, from the Kwakwaka’wakw Nation and lead actor in the film Gillian Kirke, Itinerant Learning Support Coordinator - Tsawwassen First Nation Dawna Eckert, a DSS student from the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) nation and Lhaq'temish (Lummi) people Marlena Loewen, a DSS student The panel will explore important ideas and questions about Indigenous voices, Reconciliation and filmmaking. The participants, organizers, and hosts of the Festival of Dangerous Ideas would like to pay their respects to the people of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) and Scǝwaθǝn (Tsawwassen) məsteyəxʷ (Nations) and all Hǝn̓q̓ǝmin̓ǝm̓ (Hul'qumi'num) speaking people who allow us to learn, play, work, and think dangerously on their traditional, unceded and occupied lands. We also pay our respects to their Elders, past, present and emerging, who have influenced the honest and critical dialogue that we hope to have during the Festival of Dangerous Ideas.
